SHIPPING TIPS
We Want Your Memories to Get to Us Safely!
Below are some tips to help you ensure your memories get to us safely! If you need a box, ordering one of our kits may be your best bet. Otherwise, consider the guidelines below before you send us your film, tapes or optical media.
Use a sturdy box with all its flaps. Flimsy boxes might be easily crushed in transit, squishing your memories forever!
Whatever box you use, be sure sure to remove any old labels, bar codes or shipping information. This will help avoid confusing those moving your package along.
You might wish to enclose items in ziploc-style baggies. They will add just one more layer of protection from moisture and other threats to the safety of your memories.
Use adequate cushioning material liberally. We can't help you with your memories if the film or tapes they're on are mangled when they arrive.
Use tape designed for shipping when you seal up your box. Your memories need to stay in their temporary home until they get to us.
Be sure your package has a clearly-written name and address that is valid and can receive packages.
Always include a document with your name and address, and other contact information, INSIDE the box, as well. Our order form will work for this, so we recommend at least that.
Tips for Different Media Formats
35mm FILM
It is best to place strips of 35mm negatives and 120 negatives into envelopes and/or ziploc-type bags. This will help keep them organized and flat. If they are in a negative sleeve that came from the film processor, you can leave them in that, as well.
You do not need to cut the negative strips in any way other than their present state; just be sure they are packaged so they are not damaged in transit.
Slide FILM
Slides can be grouped together with rubber bands, saran wrap or even aluminum foil. Again, it is best to seal them into a ziploc-style bag to protect them from moisture while on their journey.
Photographic PRINTS
Sandwiching photographic prints between two sheets of cardboard is a good way to protect them while in transit. Again, ziploc-style bags will help protect them from moisture.
If your photographic print is mounted to a piece of cardboard or matting which cannot easily be removed without damaging the print, just send in the whole thing. We'll be cautious with it!
VHS and Video 8 TAPES
Video tapes can be damaged when jostled too much. When you send in VHS or Video 8 tapes, be sure to send them in their sleeve or plastic case if you have them. If you do not, put them into a padded envelope or some other secure covering before putting them in the box to ship. Also be sure the box is packed so your tapes don't tumble around while in transit.
